About Dennis

For over 20 years, Dennis LaValle has turned out some of the most exciting and successful young actors in Hollywood. Dennis received his BFA from the prestigious NYU/ Tish School of the Arts and worked extensively on the stage in New York before moving to Los Angeles. Once in LA, Dennis founded the LaValle Actors Workshop and has not stopped working. Luck is merely preparation meeting opportunity. Dennis believes in training for the audition that you will have tomorrow, next week, next month, next year or five years from now, today! In this way, his clients are always prepared for when that “lucky” opportunity comes knocking on their door. In addition to his coaching he has also directed the feature film The Metro Chase starring Jon Cryer and his co-author of the best selling humor book, A**holeology with fellow workshop teacher Steve Greenberg. 1-Day Intensive Description

Part 1: All students will be paired off and given scene work from films or TV shows that Dennis has coached on. They will then be given a half hour to rehearse after which they will do ‘cold reads’ in front of the class. Dennis will work each scene and give notes.

Part 2: Dennis will work and re-work each scene asking the kind of questions that encourages critical thinking leading to a deeper understanding of the material. Instead of just directing the scenes, students will learn the who, what, where, when and why of what they are saying. Not just the next line printed on the page. “Acting is behaving naturally under imaginary circumstances” even if “knowing” the next line. If you know why your character is saying what they are saying then route memorization of the lines becomes secondary and easy.
